Passiv Haus Off-Site Loft Module
East Midlands Housing Association (EMH) has recently installed a highly efficient new loft module on one of its terraced houses in Leicester. EMH, under the Retrofit for the Future competition, are refurbishing a mid terrace house to Passiv Haus standards. To enhance the property they decided to convert the loft into living space. To ensure this was completed to a short timescale and to the required standards they turned to EnviroHomes Ltd.

EMH asked EnviroHomes to design, manufacture and install the EnviroLoft within 4 weeks. The company met the challenge and the off site manufactured unit was installed in a matter of hours rather than the traditional 2/3 weeks on site method.

The loft pod was handed over with a high standard of insulation, with all the external surfaces being manufactured to 0.12 W/m2K. The design also included the fitting of an airtightness membrane which was to be linked into the membrane being installed in the main property. Ducting for the Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery unit along with electrical circuits and triple glazed roof lights were also fitted in the factory.
